For months I’ve been perplexed, trying to figure out what is was that made the Leno show suck so very, painfully badly.

Confession: I used to enjoy Leno on the Tonight Show. I’ll even admit to being a bit of a fan.  One that even followed Kevin Eubanks on Twitter. I actually was excited to watch the premiere of his prime time show.

I didn’t make it past the first half hour.  Leno’s performance in his new time slot was so bad that I couldn’t even tolerate it as background noise.  I found it to suck to such a degree that its extreme suckiness was a distraction. It’s douche chill bad.

Did he lose his writers? Is it the lack of a couch?  Did taking so much time off impact Jay’s confidence? How could a show be THAT bad? What happened?! These were the questions that buzzed around my brain each night at 1opm since September 14, 2009.

Mystery Solved
Based on recent events, I finally have a theory. Sucking that badly was no accident: Leno’s been sucking intentionally!

It’s all part of his master plan to get his old spot back hosting the “Tonight Show” and NBC execs were in on it too.

How else do you explain the chain of events that boils down to NBC rewarding Leno’s abysmal ratings by giving him exactly what he wanted all along? read more

Glenn Beck: World’s Cure for “That Not-So-Fresh-Feeling”

Glenn Beck may easily be the world’s biggest douche bag.*

There. I said it.

I’m no saint, but I try my best to practice “if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all”.  I also try to make a conscious effort not to fill this blog with angry rants or negativity.

But today, the gloves are coming off.

Although his actions leave a bitter taste in my mouth (a taste remarkably vinegar in nature), I’d like to just consider Glenn Beck a sorry idiot – to find compassion in my heart for the struggle life must be for such a delusional moron (I’m not one to make light of the mentally ill).

Thing is, Glenn Beck is more than a moronic douche bag.  He’s a dangerous moronic douche bag. Because unbelievably – sadly (and unbelievably sadly) – our country is filled with people who are so mentally lazy and emotionally stunted that they eagerly swallow every inane morsel he dishes out – and then regurgitate it as “fact”.

If Fox News considers what they offer to be “factual news” and not political perspectives, then I can comfortably assert that it is a fact that Glenn Beck is indeed the World’s Biggest Douche Bag (“WBDB”).

The WBDB‘s attempt to politicize Yom Kippur as an opportunity for “Fast and Prayer for the Republic(video above) is hard to top, but this latest tidbit from the Huffington Post achieves at least a close second read more

My Soapbox: Reacting to Nonprofits? Not a Recessionary Refuge for Job Seekers

in blogs, connect, musings by faryl on January 28th, 20096 Comments

Earlier today I read a post Nonprofits? Not a Recessionary Refuge for Job Seekers by Nancy Lublin (founder of Dress for Success and  CEO of the not-for-profit Do Something) in which she laments the number of requests she’s been receiving since the recession from people interested in “breaking into” the not-for-profit sector.

At best the piece was self-pitying and whiny; describing it as obnoxious and alienating would not be off-base.  I’m not sure what bothered me more, Lubin extolling  ”the goodness” of her “unnaturally large heart, which should be considered a handicap” or this nonsensical metaphor for those looking to work in the sector with prior non-profit experience limited to volunteering

I had braces, I brush my teeth every day, and (sometimes) I floss. This doesn’t mean I can perform root canals.

Instead of looking at the current economic climate as an opportunity to perhaps choose from a wider pool of candidates with a diverse range of experiences,  Lubin reminds anyone considering a career change that

News flash: We’re not a bunch of dummies in Birkenstocks who sit around watching Oprah all day. Your résumé’s expensive paper stock does not tell me anything about your office abilities. Your matchy-matchy suit and accessories don’t tell me that you understand our business model. Your Harvard MBA won’t make me drool. Twenty percent of my staff graduated from Ivies — and we’re not the smartest people on the team.

Pardon me while I hop onto my soapbox for a bit

While I respect everyone’s right to an opinion, as someone in the pool of people Lubin’s chastising, I frankly am offended by what she had to say.  I commented on the original post, and am sharing a slightly revised version below. read more

Hey Tom! My Links are NOT Like Head Lice!

in blogging, musings, social media by faryl on November 19th, 2008No Comments

Like many folks out there, I have profiles on many of the social networking websites and use each to connect with different people in different ways.

I’ve have my MySpace profile for a few years.  I may not update my profile as frequently, but I still like myspace as a way to connect with friends, musicians, comedians and filmmakers that may find facebook a bit to dry/confining or may not have the professional need to join linkedin.

Easy to confuse, but not the same.

Recently, I’ve begun to use MySpace as a way to share recent updates on this blog or reach out to people regarding writing about them.

Recently, MySpace has been calling me a spammer.  Or phisher.

Recently, MySpace has been comparing my links to head lice.   read more
