How I Define Social Media: 194%
in connect, social media, twitter by faryl on January 7th, 2009No Comments194%
I’m not a math person. Math is one of the “Three M’s” I avoid in life (the other two being meat and mayonnaise). So you can imagine, numbers don’t do much for me.
Tonight, though, a number spoke to me.
I should probably explain:
I’m sitting here working on a post when I see a tweet from Chris Brogan pop up:
As anyone who reads this blog probably knows, I’m a big fan of Chris – he’s someone I have a ton of respect for.
As anyone who reads Chris’s blog knows, Chris makes it his business to help – rarely do you see him asking for help.

Commentary on Commenting
in blogging, connect, consume, social media by faryl on January 3rd, 200914 CommentsComments are pretty important to those-who-blog. As I’ve mentioned before, I crave them.
And it’s not an ego thing. If it were about ego, then I’d be most excited days my blog gets the most hits. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely satisfying knowing that someone too the time to stop by. But I am far more excited when I get one comment, than I am for every 100 visitors here. I’ve even been known to dance a little jig when I see I have a new comment, truth be told.
Comments are like the difference between someone hearing what you have to say and someone actually listening to what you said.
Comments are what turn a blog into a conversation.

Four Blog Ideas Worth Stealing
in blogging, connect by faryl on January 2nd, 200921 CommentsNew Year’s Day always seems to inspire “to-do” lists, resolutions and goal-setting.
Here are some ideas worth stealing from other bloggers to add to your 2009 Blogging Resolutions. They’re tops on my list for this year. The best part is while they may be worth stealing, you don’t have to – because they’re all ideas these bloggers have generously shared!

New Chris Brogan Rockstar Badges
in blogging, blogs, branding, connect, graphic design, social media by faryl on December 2nd, 20085 CommentsA while back I had made some badges for Chris Brogan’s Rockstar program.
Since Chris just launched his site’s redesign today, I made these new badges for those rockstars who’d like to continue to match his color scheme!
For those not familiar with Chris’s blog, it’s an excellent resource for insights and advice on blogging and social media. read more
Spotlight on Chuck Westbrook | Connecting Good Content with Great Readers
in blogging, blogs, connect, social media, spotlight by faryl on November 24th, 20082 CommentsLast week I saw a tweet from Guy Kawasaki regarding a new project by Chuck Westbrook to “End the Problem of Blogs With Great Content and No Readers“.
That sounded like a worthy cause, so I decided to check it out.

Turn Survivors into Leaders in Less Than 5 Minutes
“Empower women who have overcome adversity to be leaders in their lives, their families, and their communities. Through her vision & the Women’s Leadership Institute, Dana Bristol-Smith changed my life (so much so, that I’ve recently been offered — and accepted — a position on its Advisory Council). We are currently in the running [...]
by faryl on November 1st, 2010Call for Nominations Now Open for “Women Changing the World” Award!
One of the most vital lessons I’ve learned this past year is the importance of reaching out for help. The Speak for Success Women’s Leadership Institute is accepting nominations for its “Women Changing the World” Award. As I’ve expressed in my most recent blog posts, the Women’s Leadership Institute was a life-changing experience for me. [...]
by faryl on July 28th, 2010Inside the Bloggers Studio: Chris Blake
Chris Blake is an example of why I love sites like Twitter. I’m not sure how our tweets crossed paths, but I am glad they did. Chris is a talented musician. I love his music, but music reviews are not what I do best. Instead, to give you an idea of why I <3 Chris, I’m “borrowing” from another TV institution. Today’s installment of Inside the Bloggers Studio will be prefaced by my own “Top 10 List”. [click on the star image to read more]
