Non-Seasonally Appropriate Entertainment Break: Star Wars Holiday Special
I was a bit hesitant to post this today, as it’s been a bit of time since I’ve posted any original content. But I’m working on resolving that right now and figured it would be selfish not to share this in the meantime!
While searching for Star Wars-related videos online to keep my four-year-old nephew entertained, I happened upon this classic:
The Star Wars Holiday Special!
Luke Skywalker and Han Solo battle evil Imperial forces to help Chewbacca reach his imperiled family on the Wookiee planet – in time for Life Day, their most important day of the year!
The video may not be the best quality/resolution – but then again, it was made in a day when things were Hi-Fi, not Hi-Def!
Usually I use my sidenotes to share videos – but this was too good to not give it its own blog post! The opening credits alone merit the video four stars in each the nostalgia and cheese-factor categories. (Heck, one of the writers was Bruce Vilanch!)
It so gloriously falls into the so-bad-it’s-good category, that George Lucas has been quoted as saying ”if I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every bootlegged copy of that program and smash it.”
Grab your Star Wars Underoos, a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and glass of Tang and enjoy!
For those who’d rather read a synopsis (or anyone simply craving more) of the Star Wars Holiday Special, starwarsholidayspecial.com is an entire site dedicated to sharing the story, characters, cast, crew, photos, links, merchandise and everything else related to the special.
What TV shows, games, commercials or movies make you nostalgic? Your favorite part of the movie? Share in the comments!

I went to chuck's forum today to see what was up with our resident blogger and saw your note about being sick. i was wondering why we hadn't heard more from you. Glad your on the mend.
In the very early 70s there was a commerical for Clorox 2 – something like “Mustard on my blue shirt, what'll I do?! Use Clorox 2!” It reminded me of my mother. I was maybe – 3?
Also, Lucky Charms. “There after me lucky charms.”
Thanks for checking in! Thought I could pull off playing tour guide,
tourist, doting aunt, globe-trotter and try to be a rockstar blogger – but
now I know better!
Clorox 2 – that takes me back! I never understood why they always included
blood as a stain that detergents could easily wash away. As a kid, I
couldn’t figure out why so many people would be bleeding enough to warrant a
detergent focusing on it! As I got a little older, I caught on! ;-)
